When you're burrowed into the depths of your winter apartment, just a quick recipe from [mostly] canned veggies to get you through the season.

Ingredients
(makes 8 hearty servings)
1 Spanish Onion - minced
2 Green Peppers - diced
2-4 Cloves of Garlic - minced very very small
2 Large Cans Crushed Tomatoes
2 Small Cans Dark Kidney Beans (drained)
2 Small Cans Light Kidney Beans (or chili beans) (drained)
1 Small Chili Powder (2 oz?)

Directions
Heat a little vegetable oil up. Put the green peeper, onions in, let the onions turn brown. Add the garlic, stir for about two minutes. Add cans, stir. Add the chili powder. Stir. Let simmer for 45 minutes (or until orange bubbles form), stirring often.

Holiday Felt Garland

I was looking for a good handmade garland project to decorate my apartment for the holidays, when I stumbled upon this flickr photo. It has lots of great ideas, but I went with a modified version of the blanket stitch garland, which I describe below.

Step 0: Materials
Step 0: Materials

Felt, lots of colors
Scissors
Marker
Embroidery thread, needle
Sewing thread, needle
Circular object to trace (I used a 4" diameter cardboard circle, but you could use a can or a jar)

Step 1: Trace circles onto felt & cut out

Step 2: Blanket stitch edges of each single felt circle

The blanket stitch is described here.

Step 3: Sew circles together

Step 4: Keep sewing circles together until satisfied

Step 5: Hang garland

...I should really work on a more cohesive color scheme, but random colors are nice for Christmas.
