How To: Adding Flange to a Quilt Block
You can take a look at TheCraftyQuilter's Adding a Flange to Your Quilt for seeing how to surround a quilt block with a flange (a little like welting, but turning corners with a mitered-binding-corner approach). We're not turning corners with our flange, just adding a little flange on one side of each of our larger triangles.

  1. Cut 3/4" strips (sew together pieces to make long enough, as needed).

  2. Iron strips in half, wrong-sides facing each other.

  3. Make enough flange strips (for the triangle tree skirt, we need 6).

  5. Sew flange to quilt block with scant 1/4" inseam.

  6. Continue sewing flange strips to all quilt blocks as needed. Trim ends.

  7. Pin raw edges of quilt blocks to one another.

  8. Sew quilt blocks together with 1/4" inseam, iron open. Using a scant 1/4" inseam on the flange, and a full 1/4" inseam on the quilt blocks, should hide the flange seams.

  9. Continue sewing quilt blocks together, leaving one triangle pair unsewn.
