So. These homemade Cocoa Blocks from King Arthur Flour. You can dress them up (with crushed candy canes or homemade marshmallows). You can melt a large block in some 170 degree milk (with a steamer even better), or you can eat them like a block of fudge. I made these at the same time as the marshmallows, which worked out superbly as both had to sit out overnight to cool before being cut to size in the morning. Different messes, different awesome.
We took a handful of cocoa blocks on a trip up north to Lake Tahoe. We microwaved a $2 mason jar of milk from the bar, mixed in a hot-chocolate-on-a-stick or two, and had the most perfect hot chocolate. The recipe yield is about 2 dozen, making these a pretty easy handmade gift.
