Another post, another three more Helen's Closet Gilbert Tops.
This is Helen's Closet Gilbert Top number 4, I believe it to be a size 12 graded out to a 14 starting around the sternum, with 1.5" added to the length. And I also sliced 1" off the shoulders for added mobility (0.5" the cheat way, 0.5" the slash-and-spread). Also spread that buttons out by an additional 3/4" in both directions. This resulted in the best shoulder fit I've had so far, but it's a little short at the belly, so not quite work appropriate. Fabric is Bubble Gauze from Joann Fabrics Number 5! I think it's a size 10 graded out to a 12 starting around the sternum, with 2.5" added to the length. Spread the buttons higher/lower by 3/4". Oh, and the second pocket, too! I think sizing down yet again was likely not the correct move. A little back/shoulder tightness when moving about, but at least the length is spot on! Size up with a 0.5" shoulder adjustment next time? Gilbert Top number 6, done with the sleeveless hack from Helen's Closet. And fully enclosed seams! Not a raw edge to be seen! It's a size 10 graded out to a 12 starting around the sternum, with 2.5" added to the length. Buttons are spread higher/lower by 3/4". Sizing down does appear to be the correct move for the sleeveless version. So, perhaps this size (without narrow shoulder adjustment) for sleeveless Gilberts, and the size up (with 0.5" narrow shoulder adjustment) for sleeved-Gilberts. Only took me 6 tries to get here.
