Green Onion + Bacon + Parsley + Swiss Tart
[Edit 2/25/10: Fourth time I made this Bacon Green Onion Tart. Just as tasty as ever.]

I felt like spending an evening away from work and made this bacon-onion tart by a guest blogger on design*sponge (you can check out the author's normal blog at Tartelette).

It took awhile to put together (maybe an hour or so), so I haven't yet had a chance to taste it. Maybe for breakfast tomorrow.

Edit 2/29/09: I've been nibbling this for the past couple of days. It's *really* good. Best in the first day or two.

Dates + Feta + Pistachio = Tasty. The more feta, the betta (better?).

Frightened Rabbit on Campus

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

The above video is of a Frightened Rabbit concert I attended on campus the other week. The audience was so small, the lead singer performed 'Poke' without a microphone or speakers. After being nearly deaf from the previous songs, this was difficult to hear. Frightened Rabbit opened for Death Cab for Cutie on their Europe tour and while all their songs are depressing/lonely...at least they have nice accents.

Economic Meltdown: Where do you stand?

From PhDcomics

I'm somewhere within the protective cocoon of academia for the next 5.5 years. Jobs are for real people. Just don't tell that to my department with a hiring freeze, 10% administrative budget cut, and 5% academic budget cut.

Block Printing

Speedball water-based block printing ink on printer paper, 1/09.

Behold, one of my first test prints. Don't mind the black smudge in the upper right hand corner, it's just some scrap printer paper I'm using to see what needs to be refined in my design. Oh, and the feather design is pretty much a rip off of some wallpaper from ferm Living.

Success: Red Velvet Black & White Cookies (minus the red)

I'm in love with black and white cookies (specifically the black and white cookies from my hometown diner), so I decided to make these red velvet black and white cookies, without the red food coloring. It's just unnecessary. "Velvet" Black and White Cookies, anyone?

The only real mistake I made was adding too much water to the white glaze, and I made the cookies rather large.

These cookies are delicious. They're like flat, little individual cakes.

Note to self: extra melted chocolate chips + butter makes a ridiculous english muffin spread.
