Fluffy Fabric Flower Tutorial

Another to add to the flower tutorials, this one is a bit fluffier and more 3-D than the others. They remind me of my felt wall flowers, but a little more unwieldy. 'Not quite sure how I feel about this one.

This satin fabric flower tutorial has been adapted from Whatever & Stuff.

Step 0: Gather Materials

Step 0: Gather Materials

Materials: Squares of Fabric (I used 6x 3.5" squares of satin), Scissors, Needle, Thread, Pencil, and a Ruler. You might also want an embellishment for the center of the flower (I used some gold seed beads).

One corner of the folded fabric should have all the fabric edges. You want to trim the top of the fabric into a half-circle shape as shown.

Step 4: Open Up the Fabric

Step 5: Sew a Running Stitch in a Circle Around the Flower Shape

Step 6: Pull Thread Tight & Tie Ends

Pull the thread so the center forms a little bunch. Make sure the right-side of the fabric faces outward. Secure thread ends.

Step 7: Keep Making Flowers

Keep making these little flowers until satisfied. I made 6.

Step 8: Thread Petals Onto String

Thread the petals onto a strong string (I used quilting thread). Push the thread through the little center-bunches.

Step 9: Push Petals Together, Secure Ends

Push the petals all to one end of the thread, and secure the ends.

Step 10: Add Embellishment to Center

Step 10: Add Embellishment to Center

Pick a front-center of the flower, and attach an embellishment. I used a handful of gold seed beads.

Step 11: Attach Felt to Back of Flower

Step 11: Attach Felt to Back of Flower

Sew a small piece of felt to the back of the flower, and then you can slip a hair clip in to pin the flower to clothing and hair.
