Back in July, J and I went to Picklesburgh on one of the yellow bridges downtown. It was somewhat similar in nature to the Rubber Duck Visit, although in the middle of the day and with somewhat less people, which likely lead to it being more pleasant in many ways. Many of the vendors tried to incorporate pickles into their food, whether it be the cupcake booth with pickled fruit toppings or the kebab booth with a jar of pickled cucumbers or one of the many pickles-only vendors we found.
We ended up buying an $8 jar of 'smokra' from The Pickled Chef, made with okra, vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic, chiles, salt, and sugar. Marisa McClellan has a pickled okra recipe that would probably be easy to adapt into smokra. Pickle inspiration from a festival, who could ask for more?
Afterwards, we went to Klavon's Ice Cream in the Strip District which is so old school it hurts. An antique pharmacy-soda-shoppe turned never-renovated ice cream shop.
