While going through a few stressful life transitions, at some point we decided that it was worth $10 per meal to outsource meal planning to Blue Apron. They're generally the most affordable ingredient + recipe card delivery service out there, and it guarantees that at least 3 nights per week we eat a well-balanced, home-cooked meal. It also cuts down on some of our waste.
I just didn't have the time or attention span to pick out ingredients, find them in the store, and then use them before they go bad. With Blue Apron, we know we have to try and use up all the ingredients before the next delivery arrives. They also give the perfect amount of most ingredients so less food goes to waste. Although, of course, there's more packaging that gets recycled, but it's still waste.
It's certainly not the most cost effective method for feeding yourself, but time really is money and I will gladly throw money at any problems I can right now.
