On a chilly day we decided to go for a drive to pick-up some tasty apple cider...which is how we ended up with a small bag of Empire and Macoun apples, pear cider, vintage cider, quince hard cider, local cheeses, local sausage, local eggs, local ice cream...
The apple crisp I made with "Halladay's Harvest Barn Apple Crisp Mix" but the ingredients list brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, and nutmeg, so it's probably pretty similar to this recipe. Made with 5-6 Empire apples (peeled and sliced thinly), and placed in a pie plate. Mix the apple crisp mix with a stick of cold butter cut into small pieces. Crumble on top of the apples. Cook at 350 for 45 minutes. Serve with ice cream. Maybe some regional ice cream, like Bart's Vanilla Malt?
Yeah, when you're hungry, don't go shopping. Although, if you do, shopping local is probably the way to go.
