Knitting for Babies: Owls in Blue Larger Layette

Larger Items in the Set (Fewer owls, but they're still there...)

This larger layette set is united with the full set through color and owl theme, very similar to the smaller Owls in Blue layette, although this larger set goes muuuuch lighter on the owl cables! The 'Surf Baby' colorway of Baby Bee Sweet Delight yarn is really nice. Pastel, but not typical pastel. And the non-"pomp" yarns in this line are actually quite nice to knit with for an acrylic yarn! I don't use acrylic too often, but I prefer it for baby garments to make washing easier.

Owl in Thicket Hat - close-up (embroidered eyes)

First up is the only cabled owl item in the larger set, in the unmodified Owl in the Thicket Slouch Hat. It's not going to fit a baby, but maybe the mother would like to match the baby? Or maybe the baby will grow into it? Doesn't matter, it's a pretty cool hat! I embroidered blue eyes onto one of the owls, so the owliness is not too IN YOUR FACE.

Owlie Hat

This simple Bernat Knit Baby Jacket was really quite pleasant to knit. Came togehter very quickly, no difficulties at all (except next time I will alternate how I do my M1 stitches). The owl here comes in with these cute little black & white owl buttons. A very simple sweater can be improved with some very cute buttons.

Garter Stitch Diaper Cover and Baby Booties

The Clover Baby Diaper Cover and Booties matches the Bernat Jacket by being mostly in Garter Stitch...and also, of course, being in the same yarn! I modified the diaper cover to be knitted in the round so I didn't have to fuss with seams and weaving in so many ends of yarn, but it's basically the same pattern. I followed the booties instructions exactly, decided that I could manage a seam or two on these booties (avoiding seams is both fun and avoids some of the more dreaded work of finishing knitted garments).

Both Sets of Booties: Garter & Owlie

The Clover Booties strike me as rather large, but there's a different styled set of booties in the Smaller Layette that should hopefully cover all my bases.
