I've made 6 of these Helen's Closet Gilbert Tops in order to find the right fit adjustments. The yellow one, while not a flattering color, is the best fit with sleeves, and the sleeveless one is a pretty good size, too.
The first of many Gilbert Tops (from Helen's Closet), this one in a Hawaiian theme which is the inspiration for the original shape of the shirt. This is a size 14 graded out to a 16 starting around the sternum, with 2.5" added to the length (talllllllll). My first button placket! First figuring out how to use the buttonhole feature on my machine! Fabric is cotton poplin from Mood. I wanted more room in the arms from the previous Gilbert Top (Helen's Closet)...so I just went up a size, which was not the correct move either. Though, it is roomy! This is a size 16, with 2.5" added to length. The stiffness of the stretch cotton twill (from Mood) gives this shirt more of a lab coat vibe. If you cut the pockets & the yoke on the bias, then you don't have to worry about pattern matching! This is a size 12 Helen's Closet Gilbert Top graded out to a 14 starting around the sternum, with 2.5" added to the length. Still not quite what I'm looking for in arm/shoulder mobility. Something with the spread of the collar leads the armscye to move into not ideal position.
